To beat forecast late morning rain, “Championship Weekend” in the eighth annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony (PWO) – a $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event – started with a sprint featuring both singles semifinal matches and the doubles final kicking off at 9 a.m. on the resort’s clay courts. All three matches finished just 15 minutes before the downpour began.

In an all American doubles final, the tandem of Robin Anderson and Maegan Manasse toppled the second seeded duo of Quinn Gleason and Sanaz Marand in a see-saw three setter 2-6, 7-6(6), 10-3 to claim the event’s eighth doubles title.

This morning’s “Final Four” singles contests set the stage for an all American singles finals showdown Sunday morning between top-seeded Grace Min and third-seeded Katerina Stewart.

And then there were two.

Top seed and world No. 197 Min, 24, ended 24-year-old Romanian qualifier Gabriela Talaba four-match PWO winning streak 7-5, 6-2. No. 3 seed and world No. 270 Stewart, 20, needed three sets to beat 19-year-old No. 2 seed Ashley Kraster 3-6, 6-3, 6-0,. Kratzer’s PWO ended in the semifinals for the second straight year. Stewart is the 2014 PWO champion.

The eight-day tournament concludes tomorrow with the singles championship match, which kicks off at 9 a.m. on resort’s Stadium Court 23.

The public is invited and admission is free.
