Sea Colony Sharks swim team is dedicated to building a community based swimming program that develops team sportsmanship, confidence in swimming and the competitive training needed to compete in meets.

 

The Sharks are affiliated with the Delmarva Swim Association league and is for ages ages 5-18. The team is comprised of Sea Colony homeowners, renters, guests, as well as residents in the local surrounding communities. We offer a winter and summer team with pre-seasons and conditioning throughout the year.

Registration is available to previous Sea Colony Shark Swim Team participants, a child recommended by a Sea Colony Shark coach or any child who can pass the swim evaluation. Registration is required with payment due at that time. New swimmers whom are interested in the Sea Colony Sharks program must register and attend a FREE swim evaluation held by our Sea Colony Shark coaches, before you can proceed to sign up for Pre-Season or the Winter Swim Team. 

 

Parent supervision required during evaluation held at the Fitness Center indoor pool. Email Mike Pitts at michael.pitts@vacasa.com for evaluation dates and times.

 

Cost: $90 per participant until 8/26 and then $100.00 thereafter (10% discount for each additional sibling) NO REFUNDS or PRORATING

5 & 6 Year Olds - 4:30-5:15 p.m. (Some practices may go till 5:30 p.m.) 

Description:

  • New Participants designated by the coach to swim this practice time. Participants are continuing to learn to swim from a competitive perspective and have already completed beginner and intermediate levels. Typical ages range from ages 5-8 years and must be comfortable in the water and able to swim independently, breath on side and continue to swim. Child must be capable of swimming 25 yards’ freestyle and back stroke or demonstrate that he or she will be capable of doing so after a short amount of swimming instruction. Focus will be on learning the proper fundamentals and techniques of the four competitive strokes (Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) as well as starts and turns. The instructor will work on preparing the future participants for the Sharks swim team. 

 

Ages 10 & Under - 4:30-5:30 p.m. | Ages 11 & Up and High School Supplemental Practice - 5:30-6:30 p.m. 

Description:

  •  For ages 7-18, participants whom have previously participated on the Sharks swim team, have progressed through the beginner, intermediate or Sand Shark levels and recommended by a Sea Colony Shark coach to participate, or attended a Sea Colony Sharks Evaluation and are ready to participate on a competitive team. The coaches will be working on technique and preparing for the winter Sharks swim team season. 

All Swimmers/Parents

  • Swimmers may be moved to a different time slot to better accommodate their swimming ability by the coaching staff. This can change at each practices per the coaching staff. 

 

Required Equipment/Swim Attire

  • Each swimmer must have the proper equipment before the first scheduled practice. Female- One-piece suit/ Male- jammers. Each swimmer must have goggles that are approved by the coaches, swim cap for swimmers with long hair, fins, pull buoy ages 11+, kick board, towel, filled water bottle. Swimmers are asked to have a bag to store all equipment. Parents, please have your child’s name on all swim equipment. 

 

NO equipment will be provided.

Winter Swim Team Season - November 2022 through January 2023

  • Information for the winter season will be available and emailed out the beginning of October. If you have any questions about the winter swim team, please email Mike Pitts at michael.pitts@vacasa.com.

Coach Janna

Janna is currently the head coach for the Sea Colony Sharks.  She was a competitive swimmer, swimming for R.M.S.C. and Curl Burke in Potomac Valley Swimming, MCSL summer swimming, Walt Whitman High School and Bucknell University.  She has over twenty years experience coaching and instructing swimming in Maryland and Delaware.  Janna is available to give lessons for beginner to advanced level swimmers of any age.  She is American Red Cross certified in CPR and AED for the professional rescuer, Lifeguarding and First Aid.

Coach Johanne

Johanne has over 25 years’ experience in swim instruction and over 18 years as a USA swim coach. She currently serves as the Sea Colony Sharks swim team coach and is certified in CPR, AED, lifeguarding and first aid. She also holds the safety training for swim coaches as well as a certified USA Swim Coach.

Coach Cathy

Cathy has been involved with swimming for over 20 years, on local summer swim teams in Maryland throughout grade school and was on a YMCA National team during high school. While at the University of Delaware, she swam on the varsity team, competed in Conference Championship meets, and set records for UD. Cathy has been a member of a masters swim team, lifeguard,  group and private swim lesson instructor for children and adults, water aerobics instructor, head swim coach, technique swim coach, a school teacher, tutor, nanny, volunteer, and a mommy.
