GENERAL MANAGER’S QUARTERLY REPORT – May 23, 2019

There’s a lot of activity as we prepare for the 2019 summer season! The beach is in great shape. The guards are in place. The community looks beautiful. We’re preparing for the annual meeting and the owners’ picnic. The Beach Shoppe is fully stocked. The Fitness Center is busier than ever. And some of the world’s best tennis players are heading to Sea Colony for our annual USTA tournament. That’s for starters.

The Beach Just Keeps Growing. A mild winter helped avoid serious erosion, and our newly refurbished beach cleaner is already in action. Dave Griffith has assembled another strong team of guards who will begin staffing the beach on May 18. Seasonal umbrella packages can be reserved now! You’ll see new dune fence along the dune line designed to capture blowing sand and reinforce our dunes for better protection of our community.

Summer 2019 starts Memorial Day weekend.

We’re preparing for the Sea Colony Rec Association’s annual meeting June 1 at 10 am. That will be followed by the annual Owners Appreciation picnic at 6PM. As our first summer programs get underway, we promise a busy weekend. Sheila Stamnas and her team have packed the Beach Shoppe with new summer merchandise and are ready for Memorial Day visitors.

C’mon in, the water’s fine!

Refurbishing Ocean Pool 5 began May 6th with opening targeted for early June. We had hoped to have the pool ready for Memorial Day weekend; however, unexpected contractor delays may make it difficult to finish. Ocean pools 1 through 4 however are ready for your use and enjoyment. Next fall, we’ll refurbish Ocean Pool 4 as we continue to execute our strategy to keep our amenities in top condition. We’re also pleased to report that Ocean Pool 1 unisex bathrooms have been redone. The Aquatics Center pool is back in service along with eight other pools open for Memorial Day weekend. All pools should open by June 8. Finally, you’ll find newly purchased loungers and chairs at all of our pools.

What’s in store for this summer?

Our busy summer programs kick off on Monday, June 10, with a variety of new attractions: Paint Night and Tote Bag Decorating with Craftbox as well as Pound and Pi Yo and Zumba toning aerobics at the Freeman Fitness Center. That’s on top of our regular features: Club Sea Colony, Colony Kid’s, Kid’s Night Out, Group Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Movies on the Beach, Dickens Parlour Theatre Magic and Comedy shows, and Lloyd Dobler Effect. Congratulations to Jen Neal and her team for not missing a beat as we move from a very busy off-season into summer.

A complete list of attractions and activities– with updates throughout the summer -- can be found at our website www.seacolony.com/daily-schedule . Also check out the Play Book, the largest Play Book printed to date! Yet, it’s easier to read. Copies are available throughout the community. You can also check it out online by clicking here.

Stay APP to date! Back by popular demand will be the “Tram Tracker” app to track locations of our trams and buses throughout Sea Colony. The “Tram tracker” and “Sea Colony in My Pocket” apps can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices! IT director John Baker is working on our Sea Colony app to enhance push notifications that notify owners of amenity closures for inclement weather and other timely community-wide information.

Finally, we’re updating the Sea Colony website. We’re anxious to ensure accurate and consistent information. Don’t hesitate to share your suggestions with us. Additionally, our lobby TVs have been freshened by new high definition photos complementing our daily schedule of events.

Better Security Starts With Rule Enforcement.

Don Bowers and his team are fully staffed and ready for summer. Please be sure that you, your family, your tenants and guests are aware of the need to bring Sea Colony badges to all facilities. There are also new vehicle identifications mailed to owners this week. There are 2 methods to attach the passes to your vehicle. One is an adhesive clip that attaches to the windshield. Your 2019 pass can be easily slid into the clip when you are on property and out of the clip when traveling outside the area. We’ve also included a transparent vinyl holder that can hold your owner guest pass to your guest vehicle window without adhesive. We’ll be evaluating this system throughout the summer to see how well it works and would appreciate your feedback.

Nothing but Aces.

All courts are ready for play with great programs, lessons and clinics planned throughout the summer. Don’t miss the annual Resort Quest Pro Women’s Open, which will draw top women players from around the world for the June 3-9 competition. Additionally we welcome our newest full time tennis pro, Josh Smith. Josh is a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from Penn State University and has spent the last 2 years teaching at the Dennis Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head. Josh is joining the team in June. Finally, we’re excited to report that we are ranked among the world’s best tennis resorts!! Tennis Resorts Online now ranks the Sea Colony Tennis Center as No. 18 in the world while our junior program ranks No. 4! Congratulations to Thomas Johnston and his team as well as our facilities team and others who contribute to this success!

Prepped and Ready for the Season.

The Housekeeping team is completing power washing of entrance signs, pool decks and various equipment throughout the community. New planters have been place along the Promenade at Farragut, and both perennials and annuals have been planted throughout the community. Additionally, we’ve completed bank stabilization along Pennsylvania Avenue. Muskrats have been the problem and prompted the needed tree removal and Rip-Rap installation.

Comcast Conversion Complete – almost.

Now you can relax on the beach and still stay connected! As promised (finally), Beach Wi-Fi installation is now operational. Additionally, Comcast is stationing several troubleshooting teams on property resolving any installation issues for owners who have arrived for the first time since installation. For any issues, please contact Comcast at 855-638-2855 or helpme@seacolony.com.

On-Demand Parking Is Ready.

Our IT, Retail and Marketing/Communications teams have “rolled out” a new and improved program for On-Demand Parking utilizing new software for inventory management and rental spot purchasing. The program is now live and owners can begin registering spots available for rent. An improved “On Demand parking” program is ready to receive customers with an expanded feature offering last minute spot rentals to renters under certain circumstances. During the next few weeks we’ll be monitoring the program’s success and resolving any issues that may be identified.

We look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting and at the owner’s Summer Kick Off Party on June 1st! We’re also looking forward to one of the best summers yet here at Sea Colony!
