GM's Report: December 2018

Holiday greetings and best Sea Colony wishes for the New Year.

We’re including a busy progress report along with our hope that you have a happy and safe holiday. Maybe you’ll be able to include an off-season visit to the beach.

We’ve been very busy upgrading our media service, reviewing a rewarding 2018 and planning for new and improved activities and attractions in 2019. And we’re enjoying nature: With the help of our winter finger fences, we’re getting our own new year’s gift — a sandy beach that’s never been wider.

Here’s our report.

Turn the switch — The community-wide conversion to Comcast has been a huge undertaking that was completed in just 60 days. Our whole team was involved. John Baker worked with both Comcast and Mediacom, Claudia Thayne handled over 470 emails during the conversion and Don Bowers was personally in the field as the security staff collected the entire Mediacom inventory of digital equipment. In addition, our Security staff, Property management team members from both East and West Phases were instrumental in making the project a success. Besides much faster internet speeds, DVR and voice remotes in your units, all the common areas and the beach will enjoy good WiFi. There are about 60 owners who did not submit required registration in time for the bulk conversion. They’ll have to contact Comcast directly.

Holiday Buzz — There are several reasons you’ll enjoy a holiday visit to the beach. First, for last-minute shoppers, our retail Sea Colony Beach Shop has a number of late-season specials you’ll want to check. The pace is slower — at the fitness center, on the highways, in the village or on the beach. For the hardy, there’s the annual Exercise Like and Eskimo swim at noon on New Year’s Day, and before that the Hair of the Dog 5K and 10K races all starting at the Bethany Beach bandstand.

But first, a big thank you to all owners who contributed to the Lord Baltimore Secret Santa project to help needy local students and their families. Owners contributed nearly $2,000 this season.

Fitness Frenzy — While Jen Neal and her team are already planning for next summer, they already have a full schedule for this winter. Winter memberships at Sea Colony have increased by 22 percent over last year, and 70 swimmers have joined Sea Colony’s winter swim team, our largest ever. Let’s not overlook the 161 runners and 14 local sponsors who participated in the annual Turkey Trot Nov. 25

Do stop in. Take advantage of the new machines and the full range of classes underway.

Tennis, tennis and pickleball too — There’s just as much activity at the Tennis Center where tennis director Thomas Johnston has a full winter schedule of lessons, tournaments and exercise. He’s welcoming a new tennis pro, Ryan Moed, a graduate of Ferris State College’s professional tennis management program. For pickleball enthusiasts and the curious, Thomas is giving pickleball lessons/clinics and is scheduling a pickleball round-robin tournament every Sunday afternoon.

It’s winter — Regular and randomized patrols by the Delaware State Police have resumed and will continue during the offseason.

Planning Ahead — We’re working to improve the efficiency and coverage of our online demand parking program. Stay tuned. We’ve already begin gathering material and new features for the 2019 Playbook, the essential summer guide to Sea Colony activities. And we’re developing new ways to promote our growing basket of features and activities. Also remember to check out www.seacolony.com and/or the Sea Colony app available for iPhone and Android phones.

Riding in Style! — Santa may have his sleigh. And we’re happy about that. But Sea Colony has its new tram and we are delighted with that. It’s already been tested and passed with flying colors. It’s ready for its service debut Memorial Day weekend.

Looking back, it’s been as great year at Sea Colony with plenty of accomplishments and milestones to celebrate. Most important, we’re excited about things to come and the opportunities that lay ahead. We’re determined to ensure that Sea Colony continues as one of the very finest communities on the East Coast.

And as we go forward — On behalf of the Sea Colony and Resort Quest management team and the Sea Colony Board, we want to wish you a fulfilling holiday season. As we kick off 2019, may the New Year bring you peace, prosperity and renewal throughout the New Year.
