Would you consider donating your Sea Colony home to a veteran who is recovering from injuries sustained serving our country?
An effort called "Operation Seas the Day" needs owners in Sea Colony who are willing to donate their vacation homes to veterans and their families affiliated with Wounded Warrior Project and Coalition to Support America's Heroes, for six days of relaxation at the beach from September 4-9, 2018.
Now in its sixth year, the effort began as a grass roots idea of a small group of volunteers who wanted to invite wounded soldiers and their families to get away for a week at the beach. Sea Colony, local businesses, municipalities, the Bethany/Fenwick Chamber of Commerce and others participate to show their appreciation for the service and sacrifice these veterans made for our country. Sea Colony’s Edgewater Promenade is the venue for a warrior cookout, and later in the week, a bonfire. ResortQuest donates housekeeping services for the Sea Colony homes provided by owners. Neighbors in Bethany Beach and North Bethany also are offering their homes, and residents volunteer as hosts and helpers.
We’ve had great success in the past 5 years with housing, but this fall and winter, a few of the donated homes were sold. This event has been life-changing for some veterans. One veteran said he came home on a stretcher, spent the next year in the hospital, and never heard people say “thank you” for his service until he came to Sea Colony!
