Sea Colony hosted their 19th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk benefitting Special Olympics Delaware on Sunday, November 27, 2022. The rain held off to allow the nearly 200 participants from across Delmarva to run and walk the 3.1-mile course. Seashore Striders managed the chip-timed race.

Bennett Brumbley from Laurel, DE outpaced all participants with a time of 18:14. Rachel Yep from Arlington, VA was the first female finisher with a time of 20:44.

Top finishers received a turkey leg shaped trophy and the top three male and female finishers for each age group were awarded with a medal. Race results are posted on the Sea Colony website, www.seacolony.com/events.

Net proceeds of $9,692 were donated to Special Olympics Delaware to help local athletes with training, uniforms and equipment. “We are so thankful for the continued support of Sea Colony for putting on this event year after year and for the many folks throughout the local communities who participate in it knowing that it's all for a great cause,” said David Halley, President & CEO of Special Olympics Delaware. “With nearly a thousand Special Olympics athletes in Sussex County who all participate in our program free of charge, the funds raised through this event go a long way in continuing to ensure that they can train and compete with first-class equipment, uniforms, and training facilities.”

“We would like to give a big thank you to everyone that ran, walked, supported, cheered, and

volunteered to help make our 19th Annual Turkey Trot a huge success,” said Jen Neal, Community Events, Activities & Outreach Manager at Sea Colony. “We especially appreciate all of the local businesses that sponsored this wonderful event.”

The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire, Police and EMS were on site for traffic control and to ensure the safety of all participants.
