Day 5 - Singles & Doubles Main Draw - 9th ResortQuest Pro Women's Open at Sea Colony

When the sun set on Day 5 in the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony – a $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit clay court event – just a quartet of the original 32-woman field still have a chance to hoist the trophy, cash the winner’s check and collect the lion’s share of tournament’s world ranking points.

Half of the seeded players taking the court in Friday’s quarterfinal matches played their final tournament match.

  • In the day’s only contest of seeded players and a duel of Americans, No. 1 Usue Maitane Arconada advanced to the semifinals with a straight sets win over No. 6 Sophie Chang 6-4 6-3.

  • Wild card American Natasha Subhash moved on when fourth-seed Australian Belinda Wilcox retired due to injury in the middle of the second set.

  • In the only three-setter, No. 7 Dea Herdzelas, of Bosnia/Herzegovina, needed all three sets to end qualifier Bulgarian Petia Arshinkova’s tournament run 7-6(3) 4-6 6-2.

  • Swiss Tess Sugnaux terminated 2014 champion American Katerina Stewart’s quest for a second tournament championship in straight sets 6-2 7-6(1)

The competitors in tomorrow afternoon’s doubles final are set.

  • In an all-American match, top-seeded Arconada and Hayley Carter secured a finals appearance with a three-set win over Alycia Parks and Subhash 3-6 6-0 10-4.

  • Third-seeded European duo of Herdzelas and Slovakian Tereza Mihalikova bounced 2016 title champions and second-seeded Americans Sophie Chang and Alexandra Mueller 7-6(6) 6-2.

Nations represented in Day 5 play were Australia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Switzerland and The United States of America.

Again sponsored by ResortQuest, as well as the United States Tennis Association (USTA), UBS Financial and the Sea Colony community, this singles and doubles tournament runs through Sunday, draws nationally- and internationally-ranked women tennis players seeking world ranking points and a share of the event’s prize money.

Saturday’s play begins at 10 a.m. with the singles semifinals, followed by the doubles final (which will be played not before 1 p.m.). Admission is free and the public is invited.
